Playing and watching football is one of my foremost hobbies, so it has naturally been a large focus of my writing for many years. I have written for fanzines and websites, with opinion pieces based on the latest matches, standings and affairs of clubs.
In more recent years, I have written several commercially-available football books, self-published on Amazon Kindle.
Between 2014 and 2019 I embarked on a journey to see a competitive football match at each of the grounds of England’s 92 professional league clubs. Comprising of five volumes, ‘PLAYING OFFSIDE’ is a travelogue that records my visits. Written in an informal style, designed to appeal to the sensibilities of football supporters, the books also take a deep look at the historical and social aspects of each of the clubs, the grounds and the locations visited.

During the 2023/24 season, in the effort to gauge the popularity of women’s football in England, I followed the winning team through each round into the final. Starting from a pitch by a cricket field, I attended 11 matches, taking me across the country to eventually see the final at Wembley Stadium. Along the way, I documented the matches I saw, the different environments I experienced and the supporters I interacted with.
The book has been drafted and is set for release in November 2024.
I also keep a regular football ‘groundhopping’ blog at http://www.goalmouthscrambles.blogspot.com. Primarily focused on non-league football in the North West of England, the blog is an informal travelogue that documents my trips to each location, often selected due to an interesting feature that may appeal to a wider audience.
